Digital Media meant to me that images, information, books were used to communicate and sent across the world by manipulation, at the fingertip of a person, who wanted to send a message whether it was visual, written or aural. Digital Media means that it can be accessible to all, young or old, by using a literacy understood by all. As time goes and technology evolves, this is all made possible by means of developing visual, aural computer literacy.
But with this communication across the world, a language must be devised to go across culture and language barriers, disabilities impairing cognitive judgement too.
Since this knowledge can be accessed through a global pool of information, it also presents issues like information facts finding and dispersion of accurate sources.
A minimum of skills is required nowadays to communicate. Information used to be disseminated through television, newspapers, books etc... It used to be more difficult to study because research work was not so available. Nowadays at the click of a button, archives, records are being digitised daily and updated.
The Digital Media field has expanded, broadened its horizons so much that you do not have to be computer literate to operate a phone which can put you in touch instantly with your far-away relations or work colleagues if required.
In the workforce or studying you can be in touch remotely and still be counted and registered.
To access services, whether social or financial, for example, it can isolate the older generation. The world might become more isolating in other instances. Babies are born nowadays, nearly, with a remote control programmed for this new world of Digital Media.
Digital Media differs from traditional media as it was known at the beginning of the century in the sense of how the message is conveyed. By tradition news and advertising were printed on paper. Nowadays it is by digital means, where information is beamed across the planet though screens. Whether they are television, smartphone, cinema  or billboards, the content is legible at the touch of a button and accessible by most. Knowledge can be accessed easily for the purpose of education also.
Digital Media can make people’s lives easier. Before when you were buying a flat packed piece of furniture, you had to read the instructions from a piece of paper. If you wanted to use a new electrical appliance, like a washing-machine, you had to read the instructions from a manual leaflet. Nowadays you can access Google to watch it with your own eyes and listen to the experts.
The surprising elements for me were finding out how easy it is to use the media for manipulation, false pretences. How colporting erroneous information, disseminating propaganda without consequences. Whether the users are choosing to ignore the signs or not , the consequences of a few words on a screen can be such a detriment to new generations.
I think that someone would have similar reasons as their ancestors to create a piece of media. The only difference now is that nowadays if one wishes to get or disseminate information, to express opinions or wish to advertise products they can do so instantly and across the planet.
The downside to this is that this data seems to reach out wide audiences and can be used dishonestly.
Taking into consideration that Media is the plural form of Medium, I understand that the power of sending the message has to be well thought, refined and considered before launching into the wide world. The Media is the powerful tool, it is the main strength behind the message. As messages can be sent through photography, words, images, television etc...It has the ability to transform visions, feelings, emotions, opinions, to manipulate the masses, instantly across the globe…
When Marshall Mc Luhan coined the phrase “The Medium is the Message”, the world was not as developed as it is nowadays. As all media is readily available at the touch of a button, the Medium is even more powerful now. Media has the ability to transform visions, feelings, emotions, opinions to manipulate the masses, instantly across the globe...The manipulation of the mind is a force to reckon with when you have such a powerful tool to beam data to the unaware consumers and users. The manipulation of the mind can be subliminal, therefore one must adhere to an integral respect for others.
