Active Reading

Image
As I read about the two articles on critical reading and techniques, I learned about the way I should undertake my reading of text for study, or any tasks assigned to  active reading. From the information I gathered it is more about the understanding of the text that memorising an article without comprehension of the topic.   It is about understanding the text to  be able to assess and evaluate its relevance t ailoring it t o your needs .  One of the techniques of active reading is to do just that then read again  to  engage with the content actively and critically . Having  read about the different techniques,  one of the  main point ers  I understood  and  is  about how important it is to skim over by  selection.  Active reading is a tool to  browse text and extract the key points. By highlighting  or underlining text and keywords, mark notes in margins  to summarise points , to ask...

Media Compression

Image
Media Compression     I had read about media compression before as I had to use different formats when making videos and uploading them on  YouTube .  I had to assemble photos and music they could turn out to be huge files. As I had to send them to people for different purposes and requirements, I had to adapt them to their requests. I never really understood them but worked with them but as years  passed,  technology has developed into more specific tasks.    I never really understood what they were and how they worked.   Spatial compression (intraframe) and Temporal compression (interframe) are two ways you can use to reduce the size of your videos. That’s .JPEG and .MPEG as we know them more these current days. Low and High bitrate determine the quality of the finished product. The higher bitrate the higher resolution and the better quality of image in the video.   You can reduce the size and bitrate of a video file or stream by reduc...

Technological Evolution

Technological Evolution   After watching the five videos describing from the beginning of times how from first tools, elements evolved into the new technology as we know it nowadays. In the first one it describes how literacy began in 1452 when Johannes Gutenberg pioneered the modern printing press using rearrangeable metal letters called movable type, followed by a fax machine in 1840 based on chemical technology, preceding the invention of the first typewriter with QWERTY keyboard in 1868. In 1876, the telephone, radio, airplane, car, television, refrigerator, helicopter, nuclear reactor, computer, led lamps, mobile phones, personal mobile phones, CDs, World Wide Web, iPods, Vacuum cleaning Robots, touchscreen iPhones, 3D TVs, Hyperlo...

Peer Review #2

Image
Peer Review #2 I have read the two blogs that was assigned to me which were very different in the way they were written. I found interesting the way the writers may have been researching the same topics but when discussing them, they appear to have learned and gathered information but are not showing all in their reports. So, in the matter of reviewing, you have to ask yourself questions, and try to find sources, which show how important it is to reference them. After reading about the Spark method by Mark Gardner of reviewing, which stands for Specific, Prescriptive, Actionable, Referenced and Kind I tried to adapt those principles in reviewing my peers‘   blogs. As you are not supposed to correct the contents, you are to give some direction and support to the person, as an aid to improve their questioning and rationing by making them reflect on themselves and rewriting, refining their work by their respective introspections, as suggested for improvement with a kindness that ...

Towards Production

Image
Towards Production Our group project is about Identity, Representation and Media. These topics have been assigned to groups according to their preferences of choice among a wide list of subjects relating to the Digital Media as we know it these days. Of our group of four people, so far, three of us have met once in person in the lab.  We have chosen a more specific topic which interests us as an individual task. We have agreed on a format ,which will be a video. Oliwia has chosen the LGBTQIA+ issue, Thomas has selected Football & Racism and I have selected Music & Racism. As a whole, our choices intersect to encompass a wide area which we can detail as we go along . We can also merge some of the common aspects to fit into the wider picture.  We talked about the video option, which would suit us best.  Oliwia suggested a form of cartoon or animation strip, with avatars for us as speakers. As I have a few skills using Illustra...
